SPE System
Power Source for Meter Testing The SPE System is an electronic voltage- and current-power source and a meter supply unit (phantom load) used for testing electricity meters and other devices that operate with current or voltage. In addition to generating standard test values, the meter test equipment offers the following functions:.
SPE System Technical Data
The SPE System is an electronic voltage- and current-power source and a meter supply unit (phantom load) used for testing electricity meters and other devices that operate with current or voltage. In addition to generating standard test values, the meter test equipment offers the following functions:
Included Components
- Addition of harmonics to the voltage and current paths up to 40% of the fundamental wave
- Generation of ripple control signals up to 10% of the fundamental wave of the voltage path
- Generation of test values synchronous to network frequency for testing extremely network-sensitive measuring instruments
- Generation of unsymmetrical test values in polyphase test systems
The cabinet is equipped with the following components:
Optional Equipment
- Control Unit STE 10
- Power Source SPE 120.3 with digital voltage and current amplifier
- Digital electronic reference meter SRS 121.3 or other types (optional)
Principal Characteristics
- Voltage and current ranges: Voltage: 30 V up to 300 V Current: 1 mA up to 120 A (other values on demand)
- Output power: 300 VA or 600 VA per phase
- Power efficiency: > 85%
- Communication: RS 232 C serial line interface
Further Characteristics
The generators create nominal values for the amplifiers with extremely high accuracy and stability. The amplifiers use pulse-width modulation, ensuring high efficiency and very low heat losses. The SPE System is designed to be very compact.
SPE System Technical Data
- Auxiliary voltage: 3 × 230 / 400 V ± 15%, 50 (60 Hz) ± 5% (other voltages or frequencies on demand)
- Housing: One 19″ cabinet
- Dimensions: 553 × 800 × 1020 mm
Control Unit STE 10
The STE 10 protects the meter test equipment SPE System in case of interruption or overvoltage of the mains supply. It also contains the RS 232 C interface to control the power amplifiers and other essential control functions. The STE 10 is installed in a 19″ rack with 3 height units. Its functions include:
Key Features
- Central On/Off switch
- Emergency On/Off
- Protection against U/I short circuit in output circuits
- Network surveillance system
- Generation of tariff unit control signals (optional)
- Control of dosage function (optional)
Power Source SPE 120.3
Applications
The SPE 120.3 is a three-phase, computer-controlled voltage and current source designed for use in meter test systems and laboratory applications. It is available in two power versions:
- 300 VA output
- 600 VA output
The unit is housed in a 19″ plug-in module with 6 or 9 height units depending on output power. Key features:
Key Specifications
- Generates a three-phase network based on electronically produced sine waves
- Independent of supply voltage (no voltage stabilizer required at input)
- Uses pulse-width modulation amplifiers
- Fully described in its own SPE 120.3 datasheet
Reference Standard (Optional)
Electronic reference standards are precision measurement units for all AC values used in energy measurement. Key characteristics:
- Wide measurement range
- High precision
- Very low sensitivity to disturbance factors
- Ideal for verification of electricity meters in test environments
- Fully operated via RS 232 C interface
